HOW TO REGISTER

Postby admin » Sun May 12, 2013 8:50 pm

CHANGE EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2015

WE HAVE NOW INSTALLED A NEW CAPTCHA WHICH WE HAVE SEEN WORKING EFFECTIVELY ON OTHER SITES. WE HAVE THEREFORE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY REOPENED THE AUTOMATIC REGISTRATION SYSTEM. THIS WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT SO LONG AS IT KEEPS THE BOTS UNDER CONTROL, SO PLEASE USE THE NORMAL REGISTRATION PROCESS. ALL REQUESTS WILL REMAIN SUBJECT TO REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE AT THE WEBMASTER'S DISCRETION. BUT NOW IT'S EASIER TO TALK BACK!

For the moment and for the foreseeable future it will not be possible for us to use the normal built-in new member registration procedure for this board program. The user verification program has been cracked by spammers and as a result we are having to beat off upwards of a hundred attacks a day. Failure on our part to do so would mean that the contributions of all legitimate users would be totally swamped by offensive advertising, and the board would become unusable within hours.

These attacks are run by masses of robotic programs. We have kept them at bay so far using a CAPTCHA module - those annoying "puzzles" in which you have to copy a distorted number to gain access. But now the robots - called spambots - have been programmed to find a way around or through the CAPTCHA modules, register and post.

The way to register now works for a real human being. Send an email to me requesting membership, at: blueboxer@post.com, showing your preferred screen name and email address at which you can be reached, for your acceptance notice and personal messages later. It is preferred that you also give your real name and home town. You will get an email when your registration has been accomplished.

Sorry that we have to do it this way, but it's the only way to keep the board operating, so please bear with us.
