Indy - bits and pieces

According to the Indycar website, the final race of the season (LasVegas, Oct. 16th, 4 p.m. eastern) will be shown on ABC, Since TSN does not list the race, this may be our only opportunity to see it, assuming we can get an ABC station off-air or on satellite or cable, as most Canadians can. This raced will wind up the season, with Will Power and Dario Franchitti fighting it out for the championship. Various guest drives will also contend.

For next year, IndyCar has announced a return to Belle Isle in Detroit the first weekend in June. Like Toronto, it is a road course in a park, so very tight and a bit short of runoff areas. Safety cars are frequent and by the end there is a great deal more bashed-up equipment than owners are happy with, but there's lots of action and excitement for the spectators and it's very telegenic. We shall see how it works out.

There is also a note in Autoweek to the effect that Paul Tracy has signed a new five-year deal with Dragon Racing, but we did not catch the details. That's a long term for a guy who has only managed little more than a series of one-off rides in the last couple of years, though many of the rides have been in Dragon cars in which he has shown fairly well. Still, the Thrill from West Hill has been around the IndyCar scene for a long time and five years seems a very long contract.
